Camping Shelters: Where do I sleep while Adventuring? Read on to check out your options!
Adventuring is a wonderful way to escape your everyday life and connect with nature. But when it comes to choosing shelter for you next adventure, the options can seem overwhelming. From traditional camping tents to modern camper trailers, there are many options to choose from. In this blog post, we'll take a closer look at seven popular camping accommodation options: swags, tents, roof top tents, camper trailers, hybrid caravans, caravans, and cabins.
Swags:

Swags are the most traditional form of camping accommodation and offer a simple, lightweight option for those who enjoy the great outdoors. Swags are essentially a waterproof bedroll that can be easily set up and taken down. They are ideal for those who enjoy a minimalist approach to camping and are willing to sacrifice a few creature comforts for the sake of mobility and simplicity. Swags are usually made from durable materials such as canvas, making them ideal for harsh weather conditions.
Tents:

Tents are another traditional option for camping accommodation and are ideal for those who are looking for a more substantial shelter. Tents come in a variety of sizes and shapes, from small one-person tents to large family tents. Tents can be set up in a variety of locations, including in designated camping areas or in more remote locations, and they are often a more affordable option compared to other camping accommodations. However, larger tents can be heavy and difficult to set up, making them less ideal for those who want a more hassle-free camping experience.
Roof Top Tents:

Roof top tents are a newer option for camping accommodation and are ideal for those who have a ute or SUV. Roof top tents attach to the roof of your vehicle, the canopy on your Ute and in some cases, even tub racks mounted to the tray or tub of your Ute providing a secure and elevated shelter that is ideal for those who want to camp in remote locations. Roof top tents are quick and easy to set up and provide a comfortable sleeping area that is protected from the elements. However, roof top tents can be heavy and can impact the fuel efficiency of your vehicle, making them less ideal for those who want to travel long distances.
There is one downside to Roof Top Tents I’ve found personally when camping… If you don’t have one that is a quick and easy setup/pack down, you are kind of stuck at your campsite for the trip. My setup is not as easy to pack down and go do some four-wheel driving off road for the day. It’s just not practical, however the easiest way to make to most of your trip is to go adventuring and offroad just before setup or on your way out of camp.
Camper Trailers:

Camper trailers are a popular option for those who want a more substantial shelter than a tent but don’t want the hassle of towing a caravan. Camper trailers come in a variety of sizes and styles, from small, lightweight options to larger models that are ideal for families. Camper trailers are easy to set up and provide a comfortable living area that is protected from the elements. However, camper trailers can be expensive and can be difficult to manoeuvre, making them less ideal for those who want a more mobile camping experience.
This option is perfect for those who want to set up camp, and head off road during your stay. No need to pack down, just jump in the car and away you go.
Hybrid Caravans:
Hybrid caravans are a newer option for camping accommodation and are ideal for those who want the comfort of a caravan but the ease of a tent. Hybrid caravans are a cross between a caravan and a tent, offering a flexible and comfortable shelter that can be set up in a variety of locations. Hybrid caravans are easy to set up and provide a comfortable living area that is protected from the elements. However, hybrid caravans can be expensive and can be difficult to manoeuvre.
Caravans:

Caravans are a popular option for those who want a more substantial shelter and the comfort of a home away from home. Caravans come in a variety of sizes and styles, from small, lightweight options to larger models that are ideal for families. Caravans are equipped with a variety of amenities, including kitchens, bathrooms, and sleeping areas, making them ideal for longer camping trips. However, caravans can be expensive, difficult to manoeuvre, and require a substantial investment in towing equipment, making them less ideal for those who want a more mobile camping experience and aren’t very experienced or confident in Towing.
Cabins:

Cabins are a popular option for those who want a comfortable and convenient camping experience. Cabins are usually located in designated camping areas and come in a variety of sizes and styles, from small, cosy options to larger models that are ideal for families. Cabins are equipped with a variety of amenities, including kitchens, bathrooms, and sleeping areas, making them ideal for those who want a more substantial shelter. However, cabins can be expensive and may not offer the same level of privacy as other camping accommodations, making them less ideal for those who want a more remote camping experience.
Choosing the right camping shelter depends on your individual needs and preferences. Whether you prefer a minimalist approach with a swag or a more substantial shelter with a caravan, I’m sure you’ll find a camping shelter that is perfect for your adventure needs. When choosing your camping accommodation, it is important to consider factors such as cost, ease of use, and the level of comfort you require. With this guide, you’ll be able to make an informed decision.
